Why parents bring their kids here

What your child will develop.

The kicks are the fun part. What parents tell us about is the kid who tries the hard thing, listens the first time, and keeps going after a bad day.

Needs Master Kim's words. These five outcomes are the section your boss liked on thekoma.com. The headings are right; rewrite the one-liners in his voice before launch.

Confidence

Earned in front of the whole class, one belt at a time — not handed out.

Focus

Thirty minutes of full attention. Parents notice it first at homework time.

Discipline

Show up, bow in, do the work. Same standard every class, for every student.

Respect

"Yes sir," "yes ma'am," and holding the door — it starts on the mat and follows them home.

Resilience

Kids fall, miss the break, retest. Getting back up is the actual curriculum.

Kids train with kids their own size and stage. Pick the age, and we'll put them in the right room on day one.

Lake Forest times still needed. The schedule below is Cypress, confirmed. Age bands on the cards are from the old site — confirm Warrior 1 / Warrior 2 / Adult-Teen ages.

Never done this before?

Neither had most of our students.

The questions every parent asks in the doorway, answered before you call.

STOP — all six answers below are my assumptions and must be confirmed by the school before this page is public. Cost especially: hiding price is the single biggest bounce driver on martial-arts sites, so get an approved number or range.

What should they wear?

Comfortable clothes they can move in, and bare feet. Uniforms only matter if you decide to enroll.

Where do parents sit?

Right there, in the seating along the mat. You'll see the whole class, every class.

My child is shy.

Most start that way. An instructor stays with new students for the first few classes until they know the routine.

Is there contact?

Not for beginners. Sparring comes later, with full pads, and only when a student is ready for it.

What does it cost?

The first class is free. Tuition depends on the program and how often your child trains — we'll show you the options in person, with no contract pressure.

How big are classes?

Small enough that the instructors know every child's name, and every child gets corrected by name.

How it works

Three steps to your first class.

01

Book your free class

Pick the school closer to you and a time that fits your week. Takes about 30 seconds, and you'll get a text confirming it.

02

Your child trains as our guest

They join a real class with kids their own age — not a private demo. You watch from the parent seating. No uniform, no commitment.

03

We tell you what we saw

Afterward we talk through which class fits your child and what a normal week looks like. If we're not the right school for them, we'll say so.

No sales pitch. No contract at the door.

Little Tigers lined up in the Cypress dojang

We knew we needed to put our 5yr old son in some sort of activity and thought maybe let’s try TaeKwondo since one of our friends recommended them. The first 6 months were slow and go but now we are definitely seeing a positive change in him. He is more focused and confident in himself. The masters and instructors know how to adjust teaching styles with the different age groups and are friendly and patient.

A great sport to build focus, respect and coordination. Master Kim and his team do an awesome job with the kids! Highly recommend.

Students holding up their new belts at Lake Forest

We’ve been so happy with having our child in Yong-In Taekwondo! Our child has been enjoying the sessions and gradually learning such beneficial skills that help with physical strength, activity, and most importantly, focus and listening to the Master/instructor! We love the style of the classes and Master Kim, Master Hahm, Instructor Chet and all the volunteer assistants are the best instructors.

Who's teaching your child

"We're not raising fighters. We're raising kids who finish what they start."

Yong-In has taught in Orange County since 2015. Several of our instructors earned their black belts in this room as kids and came back to teach the next group.

Needs real bio + name. The quote is written, not spoken — replace with Master Kim's own words, his photo, and confirm before publishing any "background checked" or certification claim.

The belt journey

Belt by belt. One habit.

Every rank has a standard, and every student tests in front of their class. Show up, do the work, earn the next one — the lesson that transfers to homework and tryouts.

More than class

Summer camp, park days and a lot of pizza.

School breaks get covered: full-day camp with games, drills and lunch together. Families show up to park events and belt ceremonies on weekends — this is the part that keeps kids coming back.

Camp photos include toy blasters (X-Shot). Fun in person, but it's a polarizing image on a martial-arts page marketed to parents — I've used the group and lunch shots instead. Tell me if the school wants the blaster photos in.

Locations

Two neighborhood schools.

Hours are placeholders and Lake Forest needs its own photos. Every photo on this page is from Cypress. One 30-minute phone shoot at Lake Forest during a busy class fixes it — LF closes at 14.7% vs Cypress's 23.4%, so this is the page worth fixing.

FAQ

Questions parents ask first.

Still unsure? Call the school closest to you — you'll get a person, not a phone tree.

Answers need the school's sign-off, particularly anything about safety, sparring and tuition.
How young can my child start?
Three. The Little Tigers class is built around that age — short, structured and heavy on listening games.
My child has never done martial arts.
That's the normal case. Everyone starts at white belt, and new students are kept with other beginners until they know the routine.
Will this make my child more aggressive?
The opposite, in our experience. Class runs on respect and self-control, and students are taught that self-defense is the last resort.
Can I stay and watch?
Yes — parents are welcome at every class, not just the first one.
Do we need a uniform to try it?
No. Comfortable clothes are fine for the free class.
Are there belt tests and competitions?
Belt testing runs on a schedule at both schools. Tournaments and the demo team are optional for students who want more.
What if we need to stop?
Tell us — we'll walk you through the options. Nothing about this should feel like a trap.
